Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp strong brewed coffee
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Warm milk in a saucepan to about 110°F (43°C). In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt; make a well in the center.
  2. Sprinkle yeast into warm milk; let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Pour mixture into the well along with melted butter and stir to form a shaggy dough.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour.
  4. Punch down the dough, roll it out into a rectangle (1/4 inch thick), sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar, cut into strips, and tie into knots.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before icing.
  6. Whisk together icing ingredients and drizzle over warm knots.
