  • 500g lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 400g canned whole peeled tomatoes
  • 1 medium carrot, grated
  • 1 stalk celery, finely chopped
  • 150ml dry red wine
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté chopped onion, celery, and carrot until softened (about 5 minutes).
  2. Add minced garlic and ground beef; cook until browned while breaking it up with a wooden spoon.
  3. Stir in crushed canned tomatoes and red wine. Simmer gently for about 30 minutes.
  4. Season with oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  5. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and reserve some pasta water.
  6. Toss cooked spaghetti with the sauce in the skillet, adding reserved pasta water if needed for consistency.
  7. Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
